Signing of Cooperation Agreement with University of Campinas and 12th Japan-Brazil International Workshop

On February 16th 2015, TUAT President Dr. Tadashi Matsunaga welcomed a delegation of 5 members from University of Campinas (UNICAMP) headed by Advisor of International Relations, Dr. Carlos Suzuki. Both universities concluded the sister university agreement, effective from this date on.

UNICAMP ranked 37th (2014) in the “Times Higher Education (THE) 100 Under 50” ranking, which evaluates young universities - under 50 years of existence - around the world and is the only Latin American university to rank in this category.

In 2008, UNICAMP and TUAT co-organized the “Japan-Brazil Symposium of Universities and Agricultural Research Institutes” in commemoration of the Centenary of Japanese Immigration to Brazil. Since then TUAT has been sending participants to yearly workshops co-organized by UNICAMP and Gifu University, both also sister universities, and this year was the first time the Workshop was held at TUAT.

The 12th Japan-Brazil Workshop had “Sustainable Agriculture, Energy, Environment and Society” as theme. Speakers from UNICAMP, Gifu University, the University of Tokyo and TUAT presented their researches and about 50 people participated in the event, with an active exchange of ideas.

Advisor Suzuki expressed his hopes to increase the still small number of exchanges between Brazil and Japan with the signing of this Agreement. He also expects that active exchanges will allow Japanese students and researchers to learn more about the possibilities of Brazil, Sao Paulo State and Campinas City.
