The first one was started from the end of June and 10 overseas field training trips were completed by October in 2012 in total. In it, 9 trips with students’ supervisor (Thematic research type: the focus is put on participants’ research topic) were done in Malaysia and Singspiel, Thailand, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Ghana, South Africa and Brazil by totally 11 students with their supervisors. The contents of the thematic research type trips included suspended particulate matter sampling, herbicide residue in soil and water, contamination status of heavy metal and persistent organic compounds, efficient and beneficial application of non-used biomass and study to establish environmental-friendly horticulture. These are topics are related to environmental and scientific researches TUAT has involved in. FOLENS students are expected to accumulate on-site experiences, knowledge and skills by participating the overseas field training and contribute to elucidation and solution of environmental problems. Currently the participants are working for analysis of sample and information collected during the trip and preparing for the report. The post-field reporting seminar is held soon for further consideration on the destination for discussion and comparison among the 10 overseas field trips. (HO)
