Generally, to study in Japan, you need a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and a visa. COE can be applied for after the graduate school admission results are announced, and it typically takes about three months to obtain. The visa process then takes approximately two weeks. Therefore, for certain statuses, such as taking an exam in February, receiving admission results in March, and enrolling in April, it may be possible to enroll in April. However, if you begin the application process after receiving admission results, you will not be able to enter Japan for the first few months. Therefore, it is smoother to arrive in Japan as a research student before the entrance exam and continue your enrollment in the graduate program after the exam.
It is possible to enroll as a research student prior to admission to a master’s or doctoral program. The research student visa can be converted directly to a master’s or doctoral student visa, allowing for a smooth transition to enrollment. Applications should be submitted six months prior to enrollment as a research student.
You can enroll in the master’s program in April or October through the Graduate School of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
