RESEARCHSingle-cell technology

Overview

Our body parts are made up of many cells. Recently, it has been discovered that even cells made up of the same tissues may exhibit different properties (gene expression patterns and physiological activities). So far, researchers have mainly performed analysis after breaking down cell populations, but through this method, the individual properties of cells cannot be understood. Thus, single-cell analysis has attracted much attention throughout the world in recent years. Our laboratory is developing the single-cell analysis technology mainly aimed for “liquid biopsy”, a medical diagnosis that uses blood, and microorganism detection.
