30th January and 27th February 2013: Post-Field Reporting Seminar and Case Study Workshop

Reporting presentation of overseas field training Relationship mapping of issues in the Case Study Workshop

In the Post-Field Reporting Seminar and Case Study Workshop, presenters are expected to report their real experience, lessons and research results during their overseas field training or internship in the presentation part and make discussion how to apply to other similar cases in the future. Therefore this seminar is not exactly same as the research result presentation in a specific academic field. Accordingly students who speak about their training or internship have to take care to give accurate and easy-understanding information, and organize objective information and conclusion clearly. FOLENS staff as well have explored how to activate this seminar for all FOLENS students from various major backgrounds.
Mapping of mutual issues’ relationship and discussion what should “outsides” do for the issues were done in the case study workshop. We called people who do not directly involved as “outsiders”. In many cases we might be the outsiders. Individual topics presented can usually be categorized to impacts on environment, ecosystem elucidation, agriculture issues, community development and so on. In contrast, variety kinds of related issues are pointed out and many of them are different topics from the overall discussion in the previous workshop. At the same time, discussion sometimes biases in a particular direction, so we need to take care. Nonetheless, we hope it is an effective way to combine on-site experience and broad perspective by accumulating this discussion. (HO)
