By hosting STEP, One Semester Programme, and BRIDGE, the EAGLe of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology is assisting prospective international applicants from application preparation to arrival in Japan.
Short-term Exchange Program in Science and Engineering (STEP) is a one-year study program hosted by Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Starting in September every year running until August following year, the STEP program accepting international applications from TUAT’s overseas sister’s universities.
Every year, about 20 international students from Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asian countries are participating in this program. Successful applicants are expected to experience research activities in laboratories, Japanese language and cultural studies, one’s major related course works and general studies in Science and Engineering.
The purpose of STEP program is to provide opportunities for international students to pursue research activities on latest industries and technologies in Japan; and expecting them to contribute in the development works through collaborative research activities.
The program also aims to promote the globalization of TUAT by fostering the relationship between Japanese students and international students; which gives the better understanding opportunity of Japan to the global community.
Applicants must be enrolled in a regular program either Undergraduate (3rd or 4th Year), Master or Doctoral program at an overseas institution which has an academic exchange agreement with Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
Undergraduate students currently enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of their regular study (in home institute) are only allowed to apply.
Proficiency in English (nonnative applicants need to present an English proficiency certificate such as IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent). Proficiency in Japanese language is NOT mandatory.
Applicants with physically and mentally healthy.
Prospective applicants for STEP program may apply for JASSO scholarship (an amount of 80,000 Japanese Yen/Month).
In 2014, TUAT, Tokyo Metropolitan University and Ibaraki University Consortium launched a joint program (AIMS program) for "ASEAN Initiative to foster next generation talents to lead environmentally friendly food production, technological innovation and regional planning." This was a bilateral program that not only accepts international students, but also sends students from the University of Agriculture and Technology to overseas. The participants study abroad for one semester (4-5 months), and now the partner countries have expanded not only in ASEAN but also in Europe.
This program aims to promote international collaboration with partner universities by their exchanging students, and to develop practical global human resources that can be a bridge between Japan and foreign countries.

Advanced Environmental Agriculture & Food Technology Course
Outline
Faculty of Agriculture offers an international semester exchange program in the framework of AIMS, Asian International Mobility for Students. We welcome 10-15 students from our partner universities, and provide special subjects on Advanced Environmental Agriculture & Food Technology, experimental courses, and laboratory research activities.

This program accepts international students from overseas semester exchange partner schools for one semester, which is starting in September and ending in late December or January.
TUAT accepts about 20 international students from the following partner schools every year, and takes classes such as specialized subjects and liberal arts ones, research internships by each laboratories, and corporate internships in Japan.

Students take the open courses, sometimes with Japanese students. Almost all of them are assigned to research laboratories and conduct research internships. ★Let's learn Japanese!
In the Japanese class, students are able to learn Japanese that can be used in the daily life. Some students have passed N2 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test during their stay.

Summer program with buddy
★Overview of Japan
Students learn about Japanese culture, Japanese language and ITC, visit Japanese companies and experience Japanese society. In fiscal 2019, we visited Kao Corporation.
★SDGs Workshop
Students visit IHI Co., Ltd., working on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, a special lecturer is invited from outside such as UN agencies, Governments, UK Embassy etc., and a workshop are held for each group to introduce the initiatives to be taken for the sustainable development of the earth at a Mock International Conference.
★Virtual Manufacturing
Student visit to our laboratory as well as small and medium-sized companies TAMA association, and hold workshops to virtually develop new products and services by each group. The presentation is attended by companies’ staff, and at the reception, they are awarded the highest prize, eco de prize, idea de prize, etc. Students learn how new products are produced using the latest technology, and the power of companies. In fiscal 2019, they took this opportunity at industria Co., Ltd., Onitsuka Glass Co., Ltd., Cosmotec Co., Ltd., Regal Joint Co., Ltd., Kikuchi Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Best Ome Co., Ltd.

Corporate Internship
★ Experience Japanese companies
In the corporate internship, which takes three days to two weeks, students actually experience research and work in the field of specialization and other fields, and learn Japanese corporate culture. Buddy support
TUAT Buddy students will support international students through SNS before coming to Japan to enhance their life in Japan. In FY2019, about 150 students from the Faculty of Engineering enrolled and became buddy mates to support their lives, and enjoyed various events such as TUAT Festival and Kajino Festival.
Scholarships
Those who meet a certain grade have a possibility to receive TUAT own scholarships or external scholarships such as JASSO.
Overview
This program functions as a bridge between undergraduate and graduate level, educational program and research purpose, and newcomer and familiarity to TUAT. The student stay at TUAT for 4 months conducting one’s own research, at the same time, he or she can start coordinating the possibility and environment for one’s further research.
Admission Requirement
- Applicants must be enrolled in a Master Program (or expected Master course student (Undergraduate, 4th Year) at an overseas institution mainly has an academic exchange agreement with Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
- Proficiency in English. Proficiency in Japanese language is NOT mandatory.
- Applicants with physically and mentally healthy.

Program Contents
Student conduct their own research during the whole stay. The result to be judged at the Final Poster Presentation and Evaluation Board.
