Courtesy visit from JACTO's Mr. Jiro Nishimura to President Matsunaga

On November 17th, Mr. Jiro Nishimura, president of the Shunji Nishimura Technology Foundation and former president of JACTO farming machines, visited TUAT and President Matsunaga.

For many years JACTO has been a great partner, promoting technology exchange between our school and Brazil. Thanks to their assistance, our school was able to stablish a network with the celebrations of the centennial of the Japanese immigration in Brazil in 2008, the Sao Paulo State University (UNESP) and the Campinas State University (UNICAMP), among others.

JACTO also agreed to receive interns for the Re-Inventing Japan Project (for Central and South Americas). Mr. Nishimura himself went to the Amazon region to orient farmers for one of our projects in cooperation with JICA.

Professor Tsutsumi (Trustee for Public Relations and International Affairs), Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Professor Ogiwara, Emeritus Professor Hattori, Researcher of the Faculty of Agriculture Professor Shibusawa, Researcher of the Faculty of Agriculture Professor Chitose, Researcher of the Faculty of Professor Yamada and Associate Professor of the International Center Professor Kawabata were also present during the visit.

Together with the development of precision agriculture in Brazil and the accumulation and application of large-scale big data, JACTO has looked forward to coordinate efforts with TUAT. The hope that JACTO and TUAT continue their mutual support and that the exchange with UNICAMP and UNESP through the Re-Inventing Japan Project (for Central and South Americas) can be continued by JACTO, among others, were some of the opinions exchanged during the meeting.

At this time, we could be certain that our mutual efforts will not be limited to our laboratories only.
